Honeymoon 🗺 Where, how and when for your dream Honeymoon?🧳
The honeymoon is the time when the young couple can finally relax from all the tension and stress related to the organization of the wedding. Just be together.
It does not always have to be a long journey, sometimes a weekend is enough, just a few days. But on the other hand, a honeymoon trip can also be a crazy adventure! You decide.
So let’s look at the possibilities, how to organize it and how to prepare for such a trip.
Honeymoon – where?
If you have made a decision that you want to go on a honeymoon, the basic questions that arise at the beginning are – “where?”.
Although the first should rather be – “when?”.
If you make your dreams come true as part of your honeymoon, you know exactly where you want to go.
Therefore, there is the question of when – firstly because of the weather (about choosing the direction to the season ), and secondly because of money.
On the other hand, if you do not know where you want to go, think about whether you want to do it right after the wedding or after some time.
This is important for two reasons. First, to determine how much you want to spend on your honeymoon.
Secondly, if you want to organize it on your own, the question arises whether you are able to do it while organizing a wedding.
Then, when you have answered these questions, move on to choosing the direction of travel.
Honeymoon – foreign directions
So it’s time to move on to these further directions. What directions from this group are chosen by young couples?
In Europe, these will be:
Italy (especially Rome and Venice),
Greece (mainly Rhodes and Zakynthos),
France (Paris and Cote d’Azur),
Spain (Canary Islands).
However, many newlyweds decide to go on a honeymoon trip to Asia. Here, of course, Thailand is in the lead, then Bali (Indonesia), followed by Japan.
Turning to Africa, the wedding destination here are, above all, the paradise islands – Mauritius and Zanzibar.
Another island that is often visited as part of a honeymoon is the Dominican Republic. And while already in America, sometimes the Young Couples decide to go on a longer trip and tour a given part of the United States during the honeymoon.
The furthest honeymoon is, of course, a trip to the world of kangaroos – Australia.
Honeymoon and season of the year
An important issue when planning a honeymoon is to match the destination to the season.
you know where you want to go, check when it’s best to do it,
you have chosen the date, check where it is worth going at that time.
December January February
We have winter in Europe, we know the temperatures in Poland more or less what they are. Will we find a warmer country on our continent?
On the Greek island of Rhodes, the average temperature is then between 14 and 18 degrees. However, in Portugal, and in Madeira, which belongs to Portugal, you can expect about 19 – 20 degrees.
And these are the warmest directions in Europe at that time.
On the other hand, the European country of Spain includes the Canary Islands ( Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote and Gran Canaria), which are already at the height of Africa.
It means that you can change the continent without leaving Europe formally! Here the temperature in winter is between 22 and 24 degrees.
What about the situation in other parts of the world?
It is definitely a good time to visit Thailand and the Dominican Republic. It is the warmest period in Zanzibar (around 31-32 degrees Celsius), but also less crowded.
Also in Australia then the highest temperature prevails – about 25 – 27 degrees.
If, on the other hand, you would like to go to Mauritius, and your goal is to dive, from December to April you will have the best opportunity to do so.
March April May
Spring in Europe is getting warmer. Although in Poland at that time it is still different in terms of temperature. It happens that it is really warm and pleasant, but sometimes spring is more like autumn / winter.
How does it look like in other European countries? Let’s look at our most popular destinations:
Italy – from 13 degrees in March to around 22 in May,
Greece – Rhodes – from 16 – 22 degrees,
France – in Paris from 13 to 21 degrees, and on the Cote d’Azur from 16 to 22 degrees,
Croatia – Dubrovnik – 15 – 21 degrees,
Spain – Canary Islands – 25 – 26 degrees.
Meanwhile, how are things in the world?
In Thailand, this is the time when temperatures are already highest – an average of 33 – 35 degrees.
A good time to go to Bali as it is dry season from April to October. Also from May, the best time to visit the Dominican Republic begins.
But think about it if you want to go to Mauritius. This is the time when the rainy season begins there . April / May is also a time when it gets a little colder in Australia, but there is no fully rainy season yet.
June July August
Summer is in full swing in Europe. Depending on the country, we are dealing with temperatures above 20 and 30 degrees (record temperatures even above 40!).
If so, it is “winter” on the other side of the globe. What does that mean?
First of all, in Thailand, we have the rainy season at this time. Just like in the Dominican Republic, where hurricanes also happen. It is also not the best time to travel to Australia.
But you can still go to Bali (around 30 degrees), Mauritius (the best time for surfers, around 25 degrees) and Zanzibar (note that it’s also high season, temperature around 29 degrees).
September October November
Autumn is slowly starting here. In some European countries temperatures are still above 20 degrees, but we are generally headed for winter.
How is the situation on other continents?
The rainy season in Thailand ends in September, so October is a good time to go there again. The temperature remains around 30 degrees. The same is also the case of the Dominican Republic.
There have been rains since October in Bali, so you may have a little less sun, but it’s still 31 degrees.
Still a good time for a honeymoon trip to Mauritius and Zanzibar. In September and October you can also easily go to Australia.
Honeymoon – with a travel agency or on your own?
A standard dilemma when organizing any trip. Of course, we will find supporters of both the first and the second option. Because each of them has its advantages and disadvantages. What? Let’s take a look at them!
Advantages of going with a travel agency:
You do not have to worry about looking for or booking transport or accommodation – you save time,
You have the option of buying tours and walking with a guide – you do not need to know the terrain, it will lead you everywhere,
Care and greater safety – the carer knows what to do and will help you in case something happens.
And now it’s time for the disadvantages :
Departures with an office are usually more expensive – after all, you have to pay extra for the organization and care,
On trips you walk along the beaten path, you often chase a guide – you have no freedom,
If you do not choose the extra paid trips, you will spend your entire vacation in one place.
Similarly, when organizing a trip on your own, you have to take care of everything yourself. Transport, accommodation, formalities, insurance, safety are in your hands.
But you can visit a given country as much as you want, go to the place you want and you are able to do it cheaper.
Honeymoon – what to check before leaving?
Whether you are going on your honeymoon with a travel agent or on your own, there are a few things you should pay attention to.
I mentioned the passport before because of the name change. However, you also need to check whether the groom has valid documents. Lest it suddenly turn out that the passport or ID card is invalid.
In addition, depending on your destination, you may also need a visa. Information on how to obtain it is best checked on the website of the embassy of a particular country.
An example of such a country is Tanzania. So if you are flying to Zanzibar as part of your honeymoon and would like to get your visa earlier than at the airport, you would have to go another city.
If you already have insurance policies, check their terms and conditions, what they cover and in what situations they will cover the costs of possible treatment abroad.
If you don’t have any, consider buying a short-term one for your trip. Why?
Because its cost is low and sometimes it can be very useful!
Sure, we usually assume nothing bad will happen. Well, because that’s how it usually is.
But there are sometimes unforeseen situations that with insurance will remain just a funny anecdote, and without it, a large bill and an unpleasant memento of your honeymoon.
Before traveling to any country, especially outside Europe, check the list of mandatory or recommended vaccinations.
Vaccinations must be started well in advance (6-8 weeks in advance), so do not leave it until the last minute.
Also, remember to equip your first aid kit properly. Some medications may be difficult to obtain. Therefore, it is better to have them with you than to hurry to look for them in the local pharmacies and pay a fortune for them.
Check what conditions you have for paying with your cards abroad. What are the fees for this, are there any limits associated with it?
For short trips, it is definitely more profitable to take cash with you, and use the card only in emergencies.
Also, check if your card is Visa or Mastercard. If you have both, you’d better use Visa as it is more favorable.
Why? Because Mastercard will double-convert your transaction, which means it is ultimately less beneficial than with Visa.
However, the matter is not that simple. You still have to take into account all the additional costs that the bank charges for transactions abroad.
Honeymoon – how to pack?
Last but not least, what most of us don’t like and which is usually a problem – packing!
Usually, if we choose short weekend trips by plane, we decide on hand luggage to save some money. But adapting to the dimensions of the carrier is sometimes quite a challenge.
And if you are flying on a longer honeymoon and you have chosen more luggage, I have bad news – more luggage does not mean it will be easier!
Most often it just means that we limit ourselves less and take far too many things with us.
Therefore, these tips will also work for larger luggage.
Summary, or honeymoon in a few questions and answers
Where to go on a honeymoon?
Your honeymoon doesn’t have to be far away! The most important thing is that you have some time to be together and rest. For a honeymoon you can go to a Polish woman – to the mountains, to the sea, to a spa or to foreign destinations. In Europe, Italy, Greece, France, Croatia and Spain are popular among young couples . However, among other destinations: Thailand, Bali, Japan, Mauritius, Zanzibar, the Dominican Republic, the United States and Australia.
Honeymoon – When?
Every season is a good time to go on a honeymoon! You just need to adjust the direction to it. And that’s how you want to spend this time. A trip to the spa will work in principle at any time of the year. But a trip to Asia is not necessary, because you have to keep in mind, for example, the rainy season. You can find a detailed list with a breakdown by month in the article.
Honeymoon with a travel agency or on your own?
It all depends on whether you have time to organize it yourself and whether you want to do it at all. If you are going right after your wedding, you probably won’t have anything to do with it. That is why many young couples decide to travel with a travel agency. However, if you travel a lot and the organization of the trip is not a problem for you, or you go later and have time to take care of it personally, you can organize a honeymoon on your own.
What else is worth remembering?
When leaving, check such things as the required documents (and whether you have them – e.g. valid ID, passport, visa), insurance , vaccinations (if you are going to more exotic destinations) and your bank cards or what rules you can use them abroad.
